For most recipients of the prestigious damehood, a trip to Buckingham Palace for the investiture ceremony is an opportunity to dress up, complete with hat and high heels. But Emma Thompson has never been one to follow the rules, especially when they're unspoken!

When she arrived at the palace to receive her medal from Prince William on Wednesday, the actress and campaigner made a statement in a pantsuit and sneakers, finished off with a prominently placed badge from the Fawcett Society, which champions gender equality, women's rights, and equal pay. The sporty footwear choice should come as no surprise, as heels have always been a bugbear for Emma: she famously took off her Louboutins and threw them away at the Golden Globes in 2014, and she wore flats to the SAG Awards a few weeks later.
