U by Kotex Tampons Are Being Recalled in Canada and the U.S.

Newsflash: If you’re a wearer of U by Kotex tampons you’re probably going to want to check the lot number on the package. In a press release published by Kimberly-Clark—makers of the product—the company is announcing a voluntary recall of U by Kotex Sleek Tampons (regular absorbency) throughout Canada and the U.S. due to a “quality-related defect.”

Said defect is that the tampons (which, if you didn’t know, are the ones that come in the cute, colourful packaging) have allegedly been unravelling and/or coming apart upon removal. There have also been reports of wearers seeking medical attention in order to remove the remnants of the tampon that got stuck (*shudders*) in their bodies, as well as cases involving injuries like pain and bleeding, irritation and infections.

Kimberly-Clark, which also owns brands like Huggies, Kleenex and Cottonelle, is advising consumers to check the lot numbers on the packaging, which are all listed on the company’s website, and to discontinue use should they have the faulty batch. According to the company, no other U by Kotex-branded products are “subject to this recall,” so you’re in the clear if you use any of the other brand’s products and ranges (U by Kotex Sleek tampons also come in super and super plus absorbencies).

Of course, if you’re absolutely shaken by this (we don’t blame you!), it never too late to explore other options.
