If I Went Shopping With Jennifer Lopez, I'd Suggest These 7 Basics

There are a few celebrities I consistently turn to for style inspiration and sartorial amusement—Jennifer Lopez is toward the top of my list. Sure, I'm enamored by her iconic red carpet looks (green Versace dress and all), but it's actually her street style looks I gravitate toward on the regular thanks to their inherently cool and fashion-forward nature. And while many of said looks feature bold, statement pieces, there's often a seemingly more "basic" piece to balance out her ensembles.

After scrolling through a range of recent J.Lo photos, I came to the conclusion that we actually share some similarities when it comes to the basics that act as anchors to many of our looks. And honestly, if I had the privilege of spending an afternoon shopping with the A-lister, I bet she'd actually be into the fresh, next-level staple items that I'm into right now.

So to have a little fun, I rounded up the seven modern basics I think J.Lo would love, based on similar items she's worn over the past year. And of course, I shopped each inspired must-have as well.

While J.Lo always looks elegant, it’s her suiting, in particular, that I often turn to for those especially polished outfit ideas. She wore this cropped blazer here in 2019, but I bet she’d also be interested in the very-right-now slouchy blazer silhouettes. On Lopez: Monika Chiang boots
When it comes to denim, J.Lo has worn a variety of skinny and straight-leg styles. I’m all about the slightly distressed silhouettes at the moment, and I’m sure J.Lo would be up for trying my favorites this season as well. On Lopez: Max Mara coat; Valentino bag; Buscemi shoes; Privé Revaux sunglasses
J.Lo often steps out in simple yet impactful sweaters. Given her interest in drapey knits like this stunner, she’d probably be interested in the plethora of basic yet gorgeous wrap sweaters out in the market right now. On Lopez: Sally LaPointe top and pants; Hermès bag
If there’s one coat style J.Lo seems to wear more than others, it’s the maxi coat. Sure, she clearly has a wide variety in her arsenal, but trust that she’d be all about the fresh range of duster coats out there this winter. On Lopez: Monse dress; Jimmy Choo pumps
I’d consider leather trousers (a massive 2019 trend) to essentially be a basic at this point because they can be paired with anything—similar to other standard pant styles like khakis or black trousers. J.Lo recently wore a forward pair of pleated leather pants and therefore would probably be okay with me suggesting the cool, cropped picks I’m gravitating toward right now. On Lopez: Wolford Bodysuit ($250); Balmain Leather Pants ($1886); Alexander McQueen Oversize Sole Sneakers ($490)
As you’ll see just in a few of the J.Lo street style images in this story, she often wears lightweight turtlenecks as a layering staple or as a sleek must-have worn alone with jeans. This winter, it’s all about the classic black and white turtlenecks but also the more statement-making printed styles as well. On Lopez: Valentino bag; Alexander McQueen Oversize Sole Sneakers ($490)
Okay, statement-making sweaters aren’t necessarily a basic, per se, but those styles with a little flair (like J.Lo’s iteration here) could be considered a next-level basic in that they can be mixed and matched with other staple separates. I’m particularly into the puff-sleeve knits right now, and I bet J.Lo would be open to testing them out given that she’s worn upgraded sweaters in the past. On Lopez: Sally LaPointe sweater and trousers; Jimmy Choo pumps

I Tried the Viral One-Leg Jeans, and I Got Plenty of Stares

If you're into fashion and an avid TikTok scroller, you've probably come across the viral and somewhat controversial Coperni one-leg jeans . People who got their hands on them are asking followers how they should style them - and even whether or not they should keep them. Those who are still on a waitlist or are simply curious about the trend are going so far as to DIY the jeans by taking a scissor to one leg of an old pair. I, on the other hand, dared to step into the Romeo Hunte Black One Leg Pant ($232, originally $725), an alternative take on the same silhouette that's even more eye-catching (which, how is that possible?). These jeans were, without a doubt, one of the most polarizing looks I've ever worn - and I've tried some pretty divisive clothing, from Skims butt-enhancing shapewear to the brand's famous push-up nipple bra , and many a sheer naked dress . After wearing the jeans around town to run errands and obviously attracting some attention (st...

Oh, to Be Pedro Pascal's Sparkly Cardigan

Never have we been more envious of an inanimate object than when Pedro Pascal stepped out in a sparkly cardigan this week. As soon as we saw him walking the streets of London wearing the glittery knit, we longed to swap places with it - to be enrobing the heartthrob, catching the attention of random passersby, sparking internet discourse, and ultimately taking responsibility for his style breakout. Pascal has been serving look after look while promoting " The Last of Us " season one and "The Mandalorian" season three this year, working with stylists Julie Ragolia and Fabio Immediato . His latest came on Feb. 23 when he arrived to a radio interview wearing the shiny cardigan in question: a long button-down sweater made of silver foil yarn and created by menswear label 4SDesigns. He layered it over a sheer brown tank top and finished the look with black pants, leather boots, and his usual chunky-framed glasses. Just one day prior, the actor stopped by a photo call...
