Fun fact: I pitched this story a couple of weeks before last night's Golden Globes, and the event's red carpet now serves as the ultimate proof that my theory was, indeed, correct. After poring over S/S 20 runway collections, I had decided that statement sleeves are back in a major way—and celebrities on the red carpet definitely agree.
Of course, this isn't the first time the trend has been in the spotlight. However, the statement sleeves of yore were more focused on subtle, cutesy details while the 2020 versions are far more inventive and risk-taking. In other words, it's time to go big or go home. One of my favorite red carpet looks in recent memory is the Miu Miu dress worn at the Golden Globes by Bel Powley, who stars alongside Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston in The Morning Show. The ruffles, the puffs, the bow—it was all so perfect. Scroll down to see how to wear the statement sleeve trend in 2020 and shop my favorite picks.
