I'm Bumping These '90s Trends Way Up After Binge-Watching High Fidelity

I hadn't even kicked off my self-isolation longer than 24 hours by the time I was knee-deep in Hulu's latest binge-worthy show High Fidelity, trying to unpack every inch of what made Zoë Kravitz's outfits—no, entire on-screen being—so damn stylish. I swear that by the second or third outfit, her character, Rob, changes into in the first episode, I was already frantically scanning my own closet in my mind to figure out how I could re-create even a sliver of her effortlessly cool, '90s grunge–inspired style.

You see, on the show, Rob and her crew of vinyl-listening Brooklynites (including the enigmatic Da'Vine Joy Randolph, whose character also serves some fire 'fits) exist in modern day, but the style in the show is teleporting me back to the '90s. Seeing how Kravitz styled quintessentially '90s trends like a sleek leather trench coat or one of her many vintage Hawaiian shirts has me seeing the styles of everyone's favorite decade in a new light—and might even have me reprioritizing my current shopping list.

It should come as no surprise that Kravitz is just as stylish on-screen as she is IRL, but entertain me for a few minutes more while I find yet another reason to stalk her style, won't you? Let's continue on to see her very best High Fidelity outfits, and shop the coordinating '90s-inspired pieces that are suddenly looking really appealing to me now.

You would think that wearing an offbeat combination of purple, green, and hot pink would make for an outfit failure, but somehow it translates perfectly well on Kravitz (or should I say, Rob?). Bright scrunchies are one of the first things in any fashion girl's '90s starter pack, yet the bright scrunchie she accessorized with here has me looking at it in a whole new light.
Also available in more sizes.
I think about this leather trench a lot, and I've come to the conclusion that it's the ideal shape that falls somewhere in between being a longline blazer and a standard trench coat shape. Seeing it featured in several outfits throughout the show—atop jeans and a tee or thrown over this strange combination of a shirt and ankle boots—has me realizing how much my own closet is in desperate need of one just like it.
You just can't talk about '90s fashion without bringing up tube tops. Here, Kravitz wears a cool printed one (could it even be a silk scarf tied into a top?) to DJ a warehouse party somewhere in Brooklyn, and paired with large hoop earrings, it's a going-out look that I'm certain I need to re-create this summer.
High Fidelity is about a record-store owner and music aficionado taking a journey through her top five heartbreaks. Of course, there were going to be vintage band T-shirts involved in the styling, and I'm happy to report that they're every bit as worn-in and cool as I could have hoped.
Socks with loafers is a trend that's started to rear its head in 2020 on the street style scene. Am I 100% sure that it's a product of the '90s? No. But am I 100% sure that Kravitz makes it look like the only way to wear loafers? Absolutely.

I Tried the Viral One-Leg Jeans, and I Got Plenty of Stares

If you're into fashion and an avid TikTok scroller, you've probably come across the viral and somewhat controversial Coperni one-leg jeans . People who got their hands on them are asking followers how they should style them - and even whether or not they should keep them. Those who are still on a waitlist or are simply curious about the trend are going so far as to DIY the jeans by taking a scissor to one leg of an old pair. I, on the other hand, dared to step into the Romeo Hunte Black One Leg Pant ($232, originally $725), an alternative take on the same silhouette that's even more eye-catching (which, how is that possible?). These jeans were, without a doubt, one of the most polarizing looks I've ever worn - and I've tried some pretty divisive clothing, from Skims butt-enhancing shapewear to the brand's famous push-up nipple bra , and many a sheer naked dress . After wearing the jeans around town to run errands and obviously attracting some attention (st...

Oh, to Be Pedro Pascal's Sparkly Cardigan

Never have we been more envious of an inanimate object than when Pedro Pascal stepped out in a sparkly cardigan this week. As soon as we saw him walking the streets of London wearing the glittery knit, we longed to swap places with it - to be enrobing the heartthrob, catching the attention of random passersby, sparking internet discourse, and ultimately taking responsibility for his style breakout. Pascal has been serving look after look while promoting " The Last of Us " season one and "The Mandalorian" season three this year, working with stylists Julie Ragolia and Fabio Immediato . His latest came on Feb. 23 when he arrived to a radio interview wearing the shiny cardigan in question: a long button-down sweater made of silver foil yarn and created by menswear label 4SDesigns. He layered it over a sheer brown tank top and finished the look with black pants, leather boots, and his usual chunky-framed glasses. Just one day prior, the actor stopped by a photo call...
