21 Popular Swimsuits That Are Defining Summer 2020

Though many of us are spending more time at home and visiting fewer pools and beaches, many swimwear designers are still recording major sales. Curious to find out the best-selling swimsuits from the most buzzed-about designers, I asked them to share the popular styles they can’t keep in stock right now. It was interesting to hear what they had to say and some common themes that emerged across the brands.

In these changing times, we’ve been seeing new approaches to how swimsuits are worn, so it’s no surprise to hear from designers that their versatile, multi-wear pieces were the frontrunners. Whether a one-piece that doubles as a bodysuit or a minimal bikini top styled with a blazer and trousers, there’s a definite movement towards wearing swimwear in place of typical clothing. On the other side of the spectrum, brands have been seeing their high-glamour, escapist pieces on the sell-out list with everything from sparkly fabrics to retro-inspired silhouettes have been leading the pack. Ahead, shop the popular swimsuit styles from 7 in-demand brands.

For Oséree, the brand's signature luxe, shiny swimsuits are always in heavy demand. "Oséree brings the ready-to-wear world to the seaside," the brand explained, "to be glamorous and fabulous from the beach till the late night." Oséree introduces a new range of colors for their lumière collection each season with new shades like turquoise and gold winning out this summer.

L.A.-based brand Jade Swim is known for minimal, timeless designs that fashion people can't get enough of. This summer, their most popular pieces are versatile designs that get wear beyond the beach. They see customers wearing the Muse scoop top "as a bikini top but also many who wear it as an undergarment or as a layering piece under tops and blazers," as founder Brittany Kozerski explained. The same thing goes for their Contour one-piece, which she's seeing styled as a bodysuit with trousers and shorts. But the fastest-selling style this summer? The aptly named Expose thong bottom.

From the beginning, Monday Swimwear was designed with a diverse range of body types and cup sizes in mind and their perfect fits continue to set them apart. This summer, they're seeing sales spike for some of their classic silhouettes as well as just-launched pieces.

Their signature Bahamas one-piece has continued to soar in popularity. "it's been a best-seller," co-founder Tash Oakley explains, "because of its classic design and since it can also double as a bodysuit for a casual daytime look." The Maui top is another regular best-seller. Especially popular is the new Amazonia print, which has a charitable component—10% of profits from this print are donated to The Amazonia Conservation Team. Aside from their classics, the Barbados set is a new minimal staple that keeps selling out.

Good American launched a size-inclusive range of swimwear earlier this summer and has seen the whole collection selling out fast, but their most popular pieces have been the multi-wear items. "We have seen huge success in the adjustability factor of our swim line," the brand explained. "Not only offering reversible styles but features that support you and flatter you as well as offering extended sizes in fashionable silhouettes."

Grounded in cool '80s designs and a dose of retro glamour, it's easy to see why French swimsuit label Leslie Amon is popular amongst the fashion set. "People kind of go for fun prints and original shapes," explains Amon of her most popular styles. You'll spot these unique pieces finished with everything from lip prints to cap sleeves on her loyal set of fans.

Started by two sisters, Italian brand Reina Olga emerged from their love of Brazilian swimsuits and has established itself as a fashion favorite you're sure to spot on Instagram. "We are best known for our print blocking as well as our cross over styles," the Guia and Isotta Cleps explained, "so whenever we launch a combination of the two it sells out immediately!"

L.A.-based brand Same Swim always seems to hit on the biggest trends of the season. With so many designs under their roof, the Grace collection has been their biggest seller this season, which founder Shea Marie attributes to their versatility. "The tops can be worn as swimwear, or with high waist pants as your total outfit," she explains, "it's almost like a 2-in-1 piece."

Another reason she thinks they're so popular is the coverage they provide. "I think people are more conscious than ever about skincare and health and like the idea of being able to keep your chest and arms protected from the sun," she explains. "So many suits that offer more coverage or sun protection aren't chic or sophisticated, so I think this collection has really filled a gap in the market and people are loving that."

I Tried the Viral One-Leg Jeans, and I Got Plenty of Stares

If you're into fashion and an avid TikTok scroller, you've probably come across the viral and somewhat controversial Coperni one-leg jeans . People who got their hands on them are asking followers how they should style them - and even whether or not they should keep them. Those who are still on a waitlist or are simply curious about the trend are going so far as to DIY the jeans by taking a scissor to one leg of an old pair. I, on the other hand, dared to step into the Romeo Hunte Black One Leg Pant ($232, originally $725), an alternative take on the same silhouette that's even more eye-catching (which, how is that possible?). These jeans were, without a doubt, one of the most polarizing looks I've ever worn - and I've tried some pretty divisive clothing, from Skims butt-enhancing shapewear to the brand's famous push-up nipple bra , and many a sheer naked dress . After wearing the jeans around town to run errands and obviously attracting some attention (st...

Oh, to Be Pedro Pascal's Sparkly Cardigan

Never have we been more envious of an inanimate object than when Pedro Pascal stepped out in a sparkly cardigan this week. As soon as we saw him walking the streets of London wearing the glittery knit, we longed to swap places with it - to be enrobing the heartthrob, catching the attention of random passersby, sparking internet discourse, and ultimately taking responsibility for his style breakout. Pascal has been serving look after look while promoting " The Last of Us " season one and "The Mandalorian" season three this year, working with stylists Julie Ragolia and Fabio Immediato . His latest came on Feb. 23 when he arrived to a radio interview wearing the shiny cardigan in question: a long button-down sweater made of silver foil yarn and created by menswear label 4SDesigns. He layered it over a sheer brown tank top and finished the look with black pants, leather boots, and his usual chunky-framed glasses. Just one day prior, the actor stopped by a photo call...
