I know it's only August and summer is by no means over, but my mind has already skipped ahead to consider the ways in which my style will (and won't) be changing when fall arrives. Just like any other category, the changing of the seasons brings a clean slate of new color trends to try and with it the pressure to resign the shades you wore last season. But the good news is that this year, several of summer's big trends will still be on the lineup for fall.
While the F/W 2020 runways introduced new hues, they surprisingly included a number of summer color trends like zesty tangerine and lemon yellow, which is great news for anyone looking to extend the shelf life of their warm-weather wardrobe. Of, course, the fashion crowd will find slightly different ways to style them but nonetheless I'm showcasing five summer-to-fall colors to put (and keep) on your radar. Pastels? For fall? This one might actually be groundbreaking. Pale yellow is the one color that seems to be everywhere we look right now and the soft lemon hue happens to look good on everyone, so we're really not mad about it.
Watch out—there's a new neutral in town and we have a feeling it's really going to take off. Light mocha or mushroom, as I saw a brand recently refer to it, flooded the fall runways at Rejina Pyo, Nanushka, and so many more, making it one to watch.
Fans of neutrals, you're up. We've been talking about oat-milk dressing since the spring but the looks just keep getting better, both on the runway and on Instagram, so we have no choice but to highlight them and let you know the milky, ecru, and off-white outfit pairings aren't going anywhere.
We called this trend back in February and not to say we told you so, but we were right. Zesty tangerine is the unexpected color that really took off this summer with fashion girls opting for light sundresses in the citrus hue. While fall usually ushers in a more muted palette, tangerine endured on the fall runways which only proves its staying power.
The fashion crowd just can't seem to quit green. While neons and limes have been hitting their expiration dates, a new shade of green inspired by buzzy celery juice is making its way onto the scene. It's bright but still pale enough to work as a neutral and we predict it will find it's way onto wardrobe basics for fall, making it even easier to wear.
