The Fall 2020 Starter Pack: 7 Items That Will Upgrade Your Style

Welcome to the Starter Pack series, a Who What Wear column that dives deep into the seasonal trends everyone's talking about.

Sorry to disappoint you, but this starter pack does not include pumpkin spice lattes, Ugg boots, or infinity scarves. Instead, it features all the chicest items your closet will require should you want an on-trend fall wardrobe. Each season, there is a slew of new trends that circulate, each more tempting to buy into than the next. In a perfect world where money grows on trees and we have infinite closet space, buying one of each trend would be the obvious answer, but sadly, that isn't the case. So instead of listing all of the fall trends out for you here, we present you with the trends from this season that we think should be top of the list as you begin your fall shopping. In other words, a checklist of the freshest items you should consider buying for your most stylish season yet.

Ahead, you'll find the nine fall trends that are guaranteed to be heavy hitters once the season shifts, including statement chain chokers, sweet skirt suits, and, of course, a few handbag and shoe trends. Purchase one of each of these trends ahead and you'll find yourself extremely satisfied with the well-rounded fall wardrobe you have sitting in your closet. We promise.

Bandanas worn as a hair accessory were spotted all over the runways but what we loved most was the unexpected ways they were styled. My personal favorite? Bandanas paired with relaxed tailoring.
Speaking of suiting, skirt suits dominated even more this fall than they did last season, and we are excited to see exciting new versions like this leather number pictured above.
Shop the matching Pu Detailed Mini Skirt Beige ($54).
Chains were a consistent theme (yet again) this season spotted everywhere from bag handles to shoes, but it was the chunky choker moment we think is about to really make it big.
We've been talking about cutout dresses for some time now, but that's because they are going to continue to have a major moment for the rest of the season. From knitted to silky versions, this is basically the only dress trend that matters.
And the #1 boot trend this season is...flat boots! For years we have seen heeled boots from stiletto to kitten styles dominate the market, but this year, times are changing and our footwear is adapting along with them.
From the sweet cardigan sets you are used to to cozy matching top and bottom moments, the sweater sets trend is here to make your wardrobe ten times cozier and trendier.
Shop the matching Catalina Pant ($138).
Looking for a new bag that feels classic but still has a twist? Then these woven leather bags are for you. Bottega Veneta is certainly dominating the market when it comes to this trend, but there are more contemporary brands like Heru and affordable retailers like Charles & Keith not too far behind.
Next up, 6 boot trends we're predicting fashion girls will wear this season.

I Tried the Viral One-Leg Jeans, and I Got Plenty of Stares

If you're into fashion and an avid TikTok scroller, you've probably come across the viral and somewhat controversial Coperni one-leg jeans . People who got their hands on them are asking followers how they should style them - and even whether or not they should keep them. Those who are still on a waitlist or are simply curious about the trend are going so far as to DIY the jeans by taking a scissor to one leg of an old pair. I, on the other hand, dared to step into the Romeo Hunte Black One Leg Pant ($232, originally $725), an alternative take on the same silhouette that's even more eye-catching (which, how is that possible?). These jeans were, without a doubt, one of the most polarizing looks I've ever worn - and I've tried some pretty divisive clothing, from Skims butt-enhancing shapewear to the brand's famous push-up nipple bra , and many a sheer naked dress . After wearing the jeans around town to run errands and obviously attracting some attention (st...

Oh, to Be Pedro Pascal's Sparkly Cardigan

Never have we been more envious of an inanimate object than when Pedro Pascal stepped out in a sparkly cardigan this week. As soon as we saw him walking the streets of London wearing the glittery knit, we longed to swap places with it - to be enrobing the heartthrob, catching the attention of random passersby, sparking internet discourse, and ultimately taking responsibility for his style breakout. Pascal has been serving look after look while promoting " The Last of Us " season one and "The Mandalorian" season three this year, working with stylists Julie Ragolia and Fabio Immediato . His latest came on Feb. 23 when he arrived to a radio interview wearing the shiny cardigan in question: a long button-down sweater made of silver foil yarn and created by menswear label 4SDesigns. He layered it over a sheer brown tank top and finished the look with black pants, leather boots, and his usual chunky-framed glasses. Just one day prior, the actor stopped by a photo call...
