Bye House Shoes, Now I'm Only Thinking About Revenge Heels

While house shoes, slippers, and comfortable sneakers have been mainstays in many of our wardrobes over the last year, heels haven’t exactly been getting much wear. At least, that’s the case for my personal wardrobe that has mostly revolved around cozy pieces to slip into while working from home. To say that I’m craving a return to more dressed-up outfits would be an understatement, though. With optimism permeating fashion—just look to the nightclub-inspired pieces to hit the runways in Paris—I don’t think I’m alone.

This really hit me when I started to see fashion people talking about “revenge heels”. Recently, fashion insider Camille Charriere posted a photo in a pair of pointed lucite heels finished with a crystal bow, captioned “the return of the revenge heel ~ coming soon(ish) to a pub near you.” While Amina Muaddi—arguably the designer who embodies revenge heels—posted a photo with an “after lockdown course” on “how to rock high heels again.”

A complete departure from house shoes and cloud-like sneakers, revenge heels take an optimistic look at post-lockdown fashion where high heels are replacing more practical shoes. The heels we’re seeing are sky-high, embellished with crystals and chains, and finished in bold shades like electric green and fuchsia. All I have to say is bring them on. Never have we been more envious of an inanimate object than when Pedro Pascal stepped out in a sparkly cardigan this week.
