The Ultimate Fashion-Girl Home Décor Starter Pack: The It-Items to Buy This Year

Three months into 2021, and I could probably count the number of times I've left my house on two hands. Needless to say, my apartment has become where I spend 90% of the time, so why not transform it into an ideal sanctuary? As you may know, I spend a lot of time thinking about home decor–it's my second passion next to clothing–and lately, I've been getting a lot of inspiration from fashion IT girls and tastemakers alike. I'm a sucker for cute design details and unique objects that catch your attention, and fashion girls sure do excel at doing just that. There are about as many ways to decorate your interiors as ice cream flavors at Baskin-Robbins, but I've noticed a particular aesthetic fashion girls flock to most. You've likely already seen a bunch of these distinct items, like those charming glass lamps that resemble a mushroom and twisty, eccentric candles almost too pretty to burn. This genre of decorating is all about playful, fun objects that spark joy when looking at them–and I definitely could use surroundings that lift my mood after working from home for months on end. A few years ago I started noticing these adorable lamps showing up all over my fellow fashion editors' homes. Fast forward to today, and now glass mushroom lamps are one of the biggest home decor trends embraced by It girls around the world. As the centerpiece of a living room, coffee tables truly set the tone for the rest of your space. A design-forward one will stand out–even if the rest of your other furniture leans minimal. In the vein of the mid-century modern craze, chrome coffee tables in particular are on the rise.

I consider a good rug one of the most important decor investments to make, which may be partly why half of my saved folder right now is full of them. You may already be familiar with Cold Picnic's abstract rugs (they're a favorite among design junkies), and after owning two I can say they're worth every penny. If you're looking for something a little more dramatic, checkered rugs are surprisingly versatile.
