I'm Surprised the Billowing Sleeves on Lady Gaga's Velvet Gown Didn't Send Her Flying Away

Between the black velvet bodice of Lady Gaga's Schiaparelli column gown and the shimmering diamond drop earrings framing her face, the most luxurious part of the House of Gucci star's look on Saturday night was still pretty difficult to miss. During the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures opening gala in Los Angeles on Sept. 25, Lady Gaga dolled herself up like an Old Hollywood movie star, hitting the green carpet in a look so extravagant my eyes feel like they owe money to my computer screen. Complete with a sleek beehive hairstyle, her look rang true to the 1950s look in every way, including her massive, billowing powder blue sleeves.

The sleeves, which doubled as a stole for her strapless gown, added an extra element of drama to Gaga's look that has me relieved a strong gust of wind didn't puff up her sleeves and carry her away. To ensure that her velvet dress didn't drag along the floor too much, Gaga defended her title of world's strongest ankles in a pair of eight-inch Xtreme-1020 lace-up ankle booties from Pleaser Shoes.
