This $35 Old Navy Romper Is a Brilliant Dupe For Luxe Versions

Nearly every piece of activewear I own is black - with the exception of some fun-printed sports bras - and TBH, I'm ready for a change. To be clear, black is still my go-to color for sweaty workouts, but I'm ready to expand my wardrobe with some pattern and color. While recently perusing Old Navy's new arrivals section, I came across the Old Navy PowerChill Racerback 7/8-Length Performance Bodysuit, 6-Inch Inseam ($35) and knew I had to add it to my cart. As tempted as I was to buy it in - you guessed it - black, I stepped out of my comfort zone and claimed the black-and-white plaid version in my usual size medium. Read on for my honest review.

What I Like About This Bodysuit

As soon as I slipped on this bodysuit, I knew I wouldn't want to take it off. The fabric is thick yet soft, and my favorite feature is that it has built-in cups, so I don't have to worry about putting on a bra (a game changer on 90-degree days in the Midwest). I'm also a big fan of the plaid pattern, which is equal parts youthful and timeless. I wore it to take my pup on a walk on a scorching-hot day and felt like it was the perfect choice of clothes. The six-inch inseam provided good coverage, while the racerback straps didn't feel the least bit constricting in the blazing summer heat.

After going on a walk, I wore it to get some writing done in my building's communal workspace. I threw a white button-up over the top and traded my sneakers for sandals to elevate the look slightly.

What's Worth Noting

While most people rave over the quality and fit of this jumpsuit, a few reviewers like myself found that the top half runs slightly large. That said, my only critical feedback is that I wish it had adjustable straps, but otherwise, I'm a big fan of this silhouette (there's a very strong chance that I'll pick it up in black, too).

Another thing to note is that the built-in cups are removable (you simply pull 'em out of the built-in shelf bra if that's not your thing).

Who Is This Bodysuit Best For?

It's safe to say that sporty onesies are having a moment right now, but the thing is, so many of them are astronomically priced. I think this version from Old Navy is a brilliant option for people looking to embrace the trend without burning their bank account. I'd say it's best for casual-dressing days or low-impact workouts like walking. While you can surely wear it on its own (and garner tons of compliments), it will also look really cute with an oversize tee or sweatshirt thrown over it when temperatures drop.
