J Lo Nails Summer's Most Polarizing Shorts Trend

From red carpet premieres to dreamy European honeymoons, no matter the occasion, Jennifer Lopez is a bona fide style star. Even when she's simply out for a day of shopping, her wardrobe frequently serves up fashion inspiration. Take, for instance, her recent take on one of the most polarizing summer trends: biker shorts.

The 53-year-old multihyphenate was spotted in New York City over the weekend wearing gray knee-length spandex biker shorts while out with her stepdaughter Violet Affleck. Lopez paired her athleisure bottoms with a classic white button-down shirt. Although the shirt was billowy and oversize, her styling choice gave the spandex shorts a more formal, structured feel. Accessory-wise, Lopez slung a logo Gucci bag across her body and slipped into a pair of white sneakers from Off-White to complete the '90s-inspired 'fit. Brown-lensed sunglasses and large silver hoop earrings topped off the look.

Biker shorts often garner a strong reaction ⁠- people typically either like them or skip them. Celebrity fans of the retro trend include Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, and Emily Ratajkowski. Still, while leggings have become a wardrobe mainstay, their shorter counterparts haven't quite made the leap from a trendy piece to an everyday staple.
