These $40 Split-Hem Pants Have Taken Over My Work Wardrobe

The second I slipped into the Old Navy Higher High-Waisted Side-Slit Flare Jeans in May, I knew I was officially sold on the slit-pant trend. They add a level of chic intrigue that I've fallen in love with, which is precisely how I recently ended up with the brand's Extra High-Waisted Stevie Split-Front Skinny Pants ($40) in my shopping cart as well. They caught my eye while scoping out the retailer's new November arrivals, and judging from how much I love the aforementioned denim, I knew I had to give this professional style a shot, too. My honest thoughts on them ahead.

What I Like About These Pants

I'm wearing these pants as I type this article, and wow, they're comfortable. Their rayon-blend fabric legitimately feels as comfortable as sweatpants yet they are entirely suitable for a professional work setting. I teamed them with my favorite pair of tan heels, a bodysuit, and a blazer to give them their first test run, but I think they'd look equally cute with a pair of high-top sneakers or heels. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love versatile wardrobe finds, and these ones certainly check off all the boxes.

What's Worth Noting About These Pants

As perfect as these pants are in style and material, it might take some trial and error to achieve the perfect fit. I ordered my usual size, medium, and they fit perfectly through the leg but are a bit oversized in the waist. For me, they're not so big that they're unwearable or uncomfortable, but this is something you could possibly experience if you choose to buy them, too.

After perusing the reviews section on the brand's website, I learned that the large majority of shoppers had a positive experience zeroing in on their size, but a fraction of shoppers found them too long and, thus, returned them. For that reason, we recommend trying them on in-store if you have the opportunity.

Finally, some shoppers expected these to fit more like traditional pants than leggings. IMO, they're a unique fusion of both. They're made of a thick material similar to dress pants but are fitted in the thigh like a legging. I think it will come down to personal preference to decide if it's the right fit and material for you, but let it be known that I am a fan.

Who These Pants Are Best For

These pants are best for those looking to try a modern take on a classic style. Since they're so versatile, there's no real risk in adding them to your wardrobe, especially if you've been meaning to upgrade your closet with a few new pairs of elevated bottoms.

Additional Details

  • These pants come in sizes XS–4X.
  • They also come in a chocolate-brown color called "French Roast."
  • To clean them, the brand recommends machine washing them on a cold gentle cycle and line-drying them.

I Tried the Viral One-Leg Jeans, and I Got Plenty of Stares

If you're into fashion and an avid TikTok scroller, you've probably come across the viral and somewhat controversial Coperni one-leg jeans . People who got their hands on them are asking followers how they should style them - and even whether or not they should keep them. Those who are still on a waitlist or are simply curious about the trend are going so far as to DIY the jeans by taking a scissor to one leg of an old pair. I, on the other hand, dared to step into the Romeo Hunte Black One Leg Pant ($232, originally $725), an alternative take on the same silhouette that's even more eye-catching (which, how is that possible?). These jeans were, without a doubt, one of the most polarizing looks I've ever worn - and I've tried some pretty divisive clothing, from Skims butt-enhancing shapewear to the brand's famous push-up nipple bra , and many a sheer naked dress . After wearing the jeans around town to run errands and obviously attracting some attention (st...

Oh, to Be Pedro Pascal's Sparkly Cardigan

Never have we been more envious of an inanimate object than when Pedro Pascal stepped out in a sparkly cardigan this week. As soon as we saw him walking the streets of London wearing the glittery knit, we longed to swap places with it - to be enrobing the heartthrob, catching the attention of random passersby, sparking internet discourse, and ultimately taking responsibility for his style breakout. Pascal has been serving look after look while promoting " The Last of Us " season one and "The Mandalorian" season three this year, working with stylists Julie Ragolia and Fabio Immediato . His latest came on Feb. 23 when he arrived to a radio interview wearing the shiny cardigan in question: a long button-down sweater made of silver foil yarn and created by menswear label 4SDesigns. He layered it over a sheer brown tank top and finished the look with black pants, leather boots, and his usual chunky-framed glasses. Just one day prior, the actor stopped by a photo call...
