Dua Lipa Masters the Exposed-Thong Trend in a Backless Minidress

If there's anyone who can make throwback Y2K fashion trends feel current, it's Dua Lipa. The singer spent much of 2022 wearing a mix of retro outfits including double denim, low-rise miniskirts, and neon catsuits, and she's showing no signs of changing her style up for 2023. True to form, Lipa rang in the new year wearing that divisive Y2K trend: the exposed thong.

Posting a carousel of photos from her New Year's Eve celebrations, the "Potion" singer wore a silver and pink iridescent halter minidress with star drop earrings. The look featured a seriously low back, so low that it exposed her bright-white thong that was pulled up to sit above her hips. Lipa posed for a series of snaps showing the bold detail as she teamed her look with knee-high pink boots, pink iridescent eyeshadow, a half-up ponytail, and that essential NYE accessory - a glass of Champagne.

It's not the first time Lipa has intentionally exposed her underwear, having previously worn a pink fishnet dress and matching thong in November. While she wrapped up her "Future Nostalgia" world tour in December and also celebrated becoming an Albanian citizen, her standout style has continued to serve us fashion inspo, and we have no intention of removing the singer from our mood boards anytime soon. Bring on Lipa's 2023 wardrobe!
